Another cooking class = Another party

Flowers 'n Such's 30th Anniversary Party on March 4th was the first party for March. As you can see Flowers 'n Such provided the Fat Sisters with a gorgeous presentation for our own "yummy" food. Congratulations to Deb & Bob Lewis!!!

On March 6th we moved on to party #2 at Rockin' R Ranch for Liz Adair's (Tudy) Publishing Party. We also sold a number of our cookbooks there as well as serving up our famous refreshments.

Sorry that Deb missed this one

Party #3 was the cooking class held on March 14 at the Packard's. We learned about making wheat bread and homemade chicken noodle soup. We ground our wheat and make homemade noodles.

with homemade jam. Yum!

noodles with a pizza cutter.
(We made him earn his dinner.)

Can you tell we had fun?

I still haven't gotten into the blogging business as you can see by the weekly blog becoming a monthly blog. We are just too busy partying as you can see from the pictures. (Thanks to Stacy Guthrie for a little private blog tutoring.)

We had another successful cooking class for the cousins, aunts, etc. We make homemade wheat bread with an emphasis on how to shape the loaves. (Actually there was more emphasis on eating the bread as soon as it came out of the oven.)

We also learned how to make homemade chicken noodle soup with homemade chicken stock and homemade noodles.

The recipes are in the cookbook but it always seems to be helpful to see a demonstration and have questions and doubts answered.

Hopefully everyone learned a few new helpful tips as well as enjoying the soup and bread.

Ten members of our Cooking Class March 14, 2009.

Our goal is share some new recipes from time to time that you can add to your cookbook.

I have made this recipe twice and enjoyed it both times. It is a glorified homemade macaroni and cheese.

Shell Macaroni & Cheese

1 lb. medium shell macaroni
(cooked according to directions on package)
1 lb. (2 cups) cottage cheese
1 egg beaten
8 oz. (1 cup) sour cream
1 lb. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
Salt & pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients together and place in a 9x13 (or equivalent) baking dish. Sprinkle top with paprika, cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

I'm sure you could use other shapes of pasta but I have only made it with the medium shells. It is extremely "cheesy" with a whole pound of cheese. It is good being "cheesy" but I think you could decrease it some and it would still be yummy. If you are being creative try some other varieties and combinations of cheeses.

One time I accidently put in 2 cups of sour cream and it was still very tasty and good.
Enjoy!!

Rockin R

The Fat Sisters have two exciting catering and book selling experiences coming up the first week of March.

The first event will be the 30th Anniversary celebration of Flowers 'n Such on March 4th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Mesa Store. We will be serving lots of the old favorite goodies that we served for so many years at their Annual Christmas Open House.

Come on over on Wednesday, March 4 between 4:00 & 8:00 and help Deb and Bob celebrate their 30 years in business.

Our second event will be two days later on Friday, March 6 from 7:00 to 9:30 at Rockin' R Ranch. Read the details on the invitation below. Our family friend Liz Adair has just published another book and this is her publishing party. The Fat Sisters are going to provide many of our favorite goodies and treats and will be selling our book as well.

Mark your calendars and come party with "The Fat Sisters" on March 4th and March 6th.

First post by the "Fat Sisters"

Here goes! The first post by the "Fat Sisters."

Our idea is to post something on a weekly basis about meal planning, menus, recipes, or something else. We are always open to ideas and suggestions about what you would like to learn about.

From time to time we hope to have more cooking classes also. The one in January was a blast!

TIP FOR THE WEEK:

In order to get more fruit into your daily diet an easy thing to do is cut up some fruit in a bowl with any menu. Cut up a pear, an apple, peach, orange, grape clusters, kiwi, pineapple, melons, whatever is in season. You'll be surprised that everyone will usually take a piece of the fresh fruit.

We have recently received out 5th order of cookbooks and with each order we have made a few minor (some major) corrections, so for those of you who have a book from the original order we decided we should let you know of the errors that we have found so far.

If any of you have found any other errors please let us know.
